I’m not normally one for much makeup as I like to look as natural as possible. I definitely cannot be bothered for a full-on face of makeup every day of my life, especially since COVID hit! So, I thought I’d share my simple daily makeup routine. It barely takes any time and is so quick and simple. It’s perfect for the days when you’ve slept in too much, want to make an effort without spending hours getting ready or you feel like applying some makeup. It’s an incredibly natural look that feels like you’re barely wearing makeup.

Step 1: Primer
Primer is a step you do not want to miss out if you have oily skin as I do. I find that primer helps to keep my makeup on for a little bit longer and stops the shine from appearing too early. One of my favourite primers at the moment is The Ordinary High-Adherence Silicone Primer as it’s such a bargain and helps to even out my skin tone and smooth the texture of my skin too. It’s like using skincare instead of makeup and my skin looks better with this on but still natural which I love. It’s perfect if you’re looking for something simple to add to your daily makeup collection but will also make a difference.
Step 2: Eyebrow Gel
Eyebrows are one of the most important steps in any makeup routine! Luckily, I have naturally quite thick brows so I don’t tend to add too much to them. Brows are such a personal thing so it’s up to you to decide how best to do your brows. I tend to use a brow gel to keep them in place all day long as it adds a bit of thickness to them and fills in any gaps without going OTT. I like to keep my eyebrows quite natural but still groomed so this is a minimal effort with maximum results for me!
Step 3: Eyeliner
This step depends on how much effort I want to put in to on that particular day. If I’m feeling particularly fancy then I’ll line my eyes with the Soap & Glory Supercat Eyeliner. I don’t do any snazzy flicks as I can never get them right so I just do a small line on my lash line. I’m a big fan of this eyeliner as it’s really black and lasts all day. I have oily eyelids too but I find that this doesn’t transfer which is so useful. I hate when you look at yourself halfway through the day and realise you have black smudged around you. If you’re running short on time or want this look to be even more natural then you can skip this step!
Step 4: Mascara
You cannot go wrong with mascara! The Maybelline Lash Sensational is my absolute favourite! I use it all the time and don’t even bother trying others as I never like them as much. It adds length and volume without going clumpy and it doesn’t smudge on me either so its earnt its holy grail status! I like how it keeps your lashes looking natural but it adds just enough to make them look that little bit better.
Step 5: Concealer
I never wear foundation as I like to keep my daily makeup as natural as possible. I’m a big concealer fan but I often struggle with finding the right shades for me. I’ve found that Barry M and Makeup Revolution have a good range of paler shades so if you’re like me and struggle I would recommend checking them out. I use concealer only where it’s absolutely necessary so tend to focus underneath the eyes and on any spots, blemishes or redness around my face. I don’t like the feeling of having loads of makeup over my face so I use concealer carefully and only where I really need it to keep the look as natural as possible.
Step 6: Blush
I am very pale so for me blush is an essential step to stop me from looking like I’ve risen from the mad. Normally, I don’t go mad on blush as I don’t want to end up looking like a clown but a subtle hint of pink blush is perfect for me. Blushes with shimmer in them are my favourites so they double up as a highlighter too without the extra effort!
Step 7: Powder
Powder is another absolute essential for me! I cannot go anywhere without powdering my skin to try and keep the oil at bay. I lightly dust it over my face in the morning but always have to reapply as I have such oily skin. Also, I make sure to carry blotting sheets with me wherever I go so that I can touch up and manage the oil throughout the day. They are an absolute lifesaver!
Step 8: Lipstick
Last but not least is lipstick – my favourite part! At the moment, I’ve been using tinted lip balm so it’s not as intense as lipstick but still adds a little bit of colour. I like to keep things as natural as possible so a ‘your lips but better’ shade is what I tend to reach for. I don’t tend to like matte finish lipsticks as I find they dry my lips out too much so anything with a little bit of shimmer works perfectly.
That’s it for my simple daily makeup routine! It seems like a lot of steps when I write it down but it doesn’t take much time at all! You end up with a really subtle and natural look which is my favourite kind. I do enjoy playing with makeup sometimes but I’m not very good and I’m a natural girl at heart. This routine I can do in less than 10 minutes so it’s perfect for everyday too!
