Underrated Show 1: Skins
If you know me, then you know that Skins is one of my ultimate favourite TV shows of all time. I’ve watched it twice now and every time it just gets better. If you don’t know the story it follows a group of teenagers through college as they navigate the world of drinking, drugs, school and relationships. However, Skins is not afraid to tackle some hard-hitting issues and handles some sensitive topics throughout such as eating disorders, family relations, illness, death, grief and mental illness. Generation one will always be the best generation in my opinion (followed by generation three which gets an unfair reputation and then generation two). I honestly love it so much, and I’m considering re-watching it again!
Underrated Show 2: Stranger Things
Stranger Things was probably one of the most hyped TV shows, and after a while, I decided to give in to the hype and watch it and I not disappointed! I loved it so much that I got my parents to watch it and I watched the entire thing again with them. Steve will always have a special place in my heart and I just love the whole plot behind it, it will definitely have you on the edge of your seat throughout!
Underrated Show 3: Reign
I began watching Reign because it was about Mary Queen of Scots and I was studying the Tudors in history, so, naturally, it was educational, right? I’ve got to admit it’s one of the least factually accurate shows I’ve ever watched but that doesn’t make it any less interesting. There are so many avenues that the show explores from real life to supernatural threats, but one of my favourite things to watch was the relationship between Mary and Francis – I loved watching them onscreen together throughout all the ups and downs of their relationship and the final episode made me cry!
Underrated Show 4: Safe
The story centres around Tom as he tries to find out what happened to his teenage daughter and her boyfriend who have both gone missing… It’s one of those shows that regardless of what you think is coming next you’ll probably be wrong which is one of the things I loved about it. It was so completely unpredictable and just when you thought you knew a character they said or did something that made you suspect them. Needless to say, I would not have predicted the ending straight away. I’d love another season but, sadly, I don’t quite know where they’d go with it.
Those are some of my favourite underrated shows on Netflix. There are so many amazing shows to watch that aren’t always hyped up and the next big thing but that doesn’t always mean they are any less brilliant. Sometimes it’s nicer to watch something that no-one knows about before it becomes a big thing as you were a fan from the start!
Ahhh I love Skins so much! I've just started Season 5 and I'm hooked. Safe sounds really good too!
