The Best Places to Visit in Autumn + Winter

October 17, 2020

Guest Post from JoJo’s Cup of Mocha

It’s that time of year again! The leaves begin to change, hoodies and jackets are worn, burgundy and maroon makeup are worn, and all the spooky festivities begin. In my book, it is officially fall and I am super excited about it! It is also a great time to travel as well as there are a variety of places to go, attractions to partake in, and events to attend. Although this year is a little different due to the pandemic there may be some activities and events going on!

If you are looking to do some travelling during September and October, then check out these 5 awesome places to visit for the fall season!

Fall Destination 1: Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania is a beautiful state no matter what time of year you go but I have to say it is definitely beautiful during the fall. You can look all around you, whether you’re in the mountains, the valley, or on a rolling hill, and see the magnificent fall foliage. In addition, throughout the state, there are many fall festivals in different counties such as the Apple & Cheese Festival, Bedford Fall Foliage, Autumn Leaf Festival, and tons of harvest festivals. If you’re into old prisons then be sure to go to Philadelphia to check out the day and night (ghost) tours at the Eastern State Penitentiary! With all the apple and pumpkin picking, corn mazes, haunted house attractions, ghost tours, and festivals you’ll have plenty to look forward to when you visit Pennsylvania.

Fall Destination 2: Florida

Florida is a great place to go at any point during the year. For the most part, the weather is usually warm and beautiful but can tend to be very hot and humid at times as well.  So, if you’re not into the typical cool fall weather than Florida is your place to visit to soak in some heat and sun! In Florida, you can find the major Disney theme parks like Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, Sea World, Epcot, Universal Studios and Island of Adventures, and Magic Kingdom. These are very popular spots to visit but going during September and October means that there won’t be as many visitors to the parks compared to their high peak summer months. In addition to the parks, during this time of year, you can visit Florida to go horseback riding, hiking/camping, the International Wine and Food Festival at Epcot, Howl-O-Scream, and the lovely beaches such as Miami beach.

Fall Destination 3: New York

I could not make a list without mentioning my home state of New York. Just like Pennsylvania, the fall foliage is breathtaking throughout upstate New York and Long Island. Even in the city where I’m from you can see the amazing leaves which remind you of fall. You can venture to upstate New York where you have the beautiful hills and mountains to attend festivals or have a quiet getaway. Or, you can venture to NYC and attend the many activities and events the city has to offer such as Oktoberfest, The Great Jack O’ Lantern Blaze Guide, the Halloween Parade, and so much more!

Fall Destination 4: South Carolina

Last year, my boyfriend and I travelled to Myrtle Beach in South Carolina for my birthday/Thanksgiving/anniversary weekend. The weather was slightly cooler than expected but overall not too cold. The beach is always an option for September and October, but the water might be slightly cooler than normal. Besides the beach, you can attend the multiple festivals in this state such as Fall for Greenville, Zombie Attack!, Rock the Ranch Music Festival, Habersham Harvest Festival, and lovely scenic drives through the mountains.

Fall Destination 5: Germany

Five years ago, in 2015 I was in Germany in the month of September. The primary reason I went with my friends was to attend Oktoberfest. It was quite the experience, and I would love to do it again someday, but that is just one of the many things to do if you decide to travel to Germany during the months of September and October. You can visit the many castles of the German countrysides, wine festivals, Ludwigsburg Pumpkin Festival, and of course the beautiful fall scenery.

Due to the pandemic situation, some of these activities may or may not be taking place this year. So, be sure to double-check with the appropriate people about whether they will host these events this year. Despite this, all of these locations have so much to offer for the fall and it would be a shame not to check them out at some point! Even if you’re looking for a weekend getaway or a quick day trip, these 5 places are worth travelling to during September and October.

I've been in a major reading slump recently and I've had so many uni books to get through so I haven't read anything fun for ages 😭

Have you read this book? What did you think of it?

Also are reviews things you'd like to read on the blog (or insta)?
HAPPY PANCAKE DAY! 🥞 Here is a completely unre HAPPY PANCAKE DAY! 🥞

Here is a completely unrelated photo to pancakes (I'm having some later!) but here are some of the horses I see on my daily walk!

How are you doing at the moment? Are you having pancakes today?
This is a really old photo but I have nothing rece This is a really old photo but I have nothing recent to post 🙈

How is everyone doing? Truth be told I've been feeling a bit overwhelmed and dishearted with my blog and uni so I'm trying to give myself some time off.

What have you been doing?
Long time no speak yet again. I'm no good at Insta Long time no speak yet again. I'm no good at Instagram 🙈

I started bullet journaling last month and have been finding it so relaxing. I am not the best at the art side of it though 😅🎨

I posted a blog post today talking about how to create a simple spread - link in bio if you're interested!

Do you bullet journal?
Finally we have some snow!! I've been a bit MIA Finally we have some snow!!

I've been a bit MIA in the blogging world due to university assignments and feeling a bit run down. It's the final week of uni deadlines and then I'm chilling for a week!

The snow has really lifted my mood ❄🌨

Do you have any snow where you are?
Hello again and Happy New Year! Apologies for the Hello again and Happy New Year! Apologies for the brain dump that is about to happen in the caption but it's been a while 🙈

I've not been very active in the Instagram or blogging community recently as I've had so much uni work to do that I just haven't had the time to keep on top of it all! 🙈

I'm hoping in the next few weeks I'll get my blogging mojo back and have more time but for now if you don't see me around I'll hopefully be back soon enough 🥰

How are people feeling after the announcement yesterday? If I'm honest I'm feeling a bit deflated about it and university students are always forgotten. Every. Single. Time!!

I'm hoping that during this lockdown (and once these deadlines have passed) I'll have more time for my blog and to start creating new content as I'm excited for my blog in 2021! 😇

In other news, I'm sticking to one of my new year goals and trying to go running and I'm actually enjoying it?! How are your new years goals going, if you set any?
